Updated November 2021
At the time of writing this blog it is 25 November, Thanksgiving! The holiday season has officially started! I am slightly late with this blog, I normally like to have the trends out by the end of the 3rd week of the month, but hey ho 2020 is a weird year!
So we know we can identify trends on Pinterest because Pinterest is a search engine. It is important to be aware of the trends so you know which keywords to use in your content and in your own searches in order to drive traffic to your website. There are several ways to do this. The Clever Pins’ Perfect Pinterest Planner is a handy document which gives you all the Pinterest trends in one overview.
The other way to identify trends on Pinterest is to use the Pinterest Trends Tool. This was introduced in the beginning of 2020 and is a great way of identifying trends on Pinterest. To find it go to Analytics -> Trends. Type in any search term and Pinterest will show you how this has performed over the last year. And of course there are blogs out there that give you an overview of what to think about for your content planning.
So let’s have a look at what you need to concentrate on content-wise in December.
First off is Christmas! With Thanksgiving (almost) over pinners will concentrate on Christmas. This year, again, a lot of people are putting their trees up early to see some kind of comfort and if you are in the Christmas decorations industry you need to have your content out there! Searches for Christmas trees, decor, gift ideas, nail ideas, fireplace, front door decorations, have all gone up.
In the last couple of weeks winter searches have increased. The top winter searches are winter fashion, winter nails and winter outfits.
New Year’s Eve
This year there will be some bigger parties to celebrate New Year, pinners are definitely looking for party inspiration. Anything from party food, cocktails, table decoration but especially party wear are keywords pinners are searching.
Normally travel searches go up in December, especially winter sun destinations, but as the future is still uncertain this has not been happening this year.
December is weird!
December is somewhat strange with regards to trends. The moment Christmas is over there is an almost immediate shift to searches for organisation, planning, budgeting, healthy eating and fitness. If you are in this business start putting your content out there now. I know that feels strange but remember Pinterest recommends pinning seasonal content 4-6 weeks in advance.
If you want to be marketing your products/services on Pinterest you need to think ahead and look at what special days are coming up. Remember pinners are planners! For this type of content it is good practice to start pinning at least 45 days before the actual event.
I hope the above is helpful and you will be able to create new content that drives traffic. Make sure you get the Clever Pins’ Perfect Pinterest Planner to help you with your content.
If you need help with pin design, do check out the Clever Pins’ shop for ready made pin template packages. And remember to make life easy for yourself by using the Pinterest scheduler or a scheduling tool like Tailwind.
