At the time of writing this blog it is almost 26 November, Thanksgiving! The holiday season has officially started! I am slightly late with this blog, I normally like to have the trends out by the end of the 3rd week of the month, but hey ho 2020 is a weird year!
So we know we can identify trends on Pinterest because Pinterest is a search engine. It is important to be aware of the trends so you know which keywords to use in your content and in your own searches in order to drive traffic to your website. There are several ways to do this. The other way to identify trends on Pinterest is to use the Pinterest Tool. This was introduced in the beginning of 2020 and is a great way of identifying trends on Pinterest. To find it go to Analytics -> Trends. Type in any search term and Pinterest will show you how this has performed over the last year. And of course there are blogs out there that give you an overview of what to think about for your content planning.
We know that 2020 is a ‘funny’ year and trends are slightly different from previous years. Pinners are looking further ahead than normal as they are looking for positives in this difficult time. So let’s have a look at what you need to concentrate on content-wise in December.
First off is Christmas! With Thanksgiving (almost) over pinners will concentrate on Christmas. This year a lot of people are putting their trees up early to see some kind of comfort and if you are in the Christmas decorations industry you need to have your content out there! Especially if you create window displays!
In the last couple of weeks winter searches have increased. The top winter searches are:
Winter fashion ( winter beach outfit +145%), winter entertainment and entertaining (LED lights +22x) and winter DIY (cozy room decor +90x).
New Year’s Eve
Although this year there won’t be big elaborate parties as lots of countries are in the 2nd wave of the pandemic, pinners are still looking for party inspiration. Anything from party food, cocktails, table decoration, party wear to name a few.
With the news of several vaccines entering in the last testing stages, pinners are looking at travel destinations. ‘Holiday destinations, places to travel and travel destinations’ are search terms that are on the rise on Pinterest!
December is weird!
December is somewhat strange with regards to trends. The moment Christmas is over there is an almost immediate shift to searches for organisation, planning, budgeting, healthy eating and fitness. If you are in this business start putting your content out there now. I know that feels strange but remember Pinterest recommends pinning seasonal content 4-6 weeks in advance.
